No one disputes Chicago is the sports king in the Midwest. It's big time, and it should be. Folks downstate like their sports too. It is very unusual to see sports bust out downstate in the same week and in the same place. In fact most of it goes unnoticed.

The Peoria Hockey franchise was sold to the Kanucks, but they won't play in Peoria. The Rivermen and the arena are soon to be part of the Southern Professional Hockey League

The Robert Morris University is looking to bring college football back to Peoria. They are currently recruiting for their Eagles team.

TNA national wrestling is coming to Peoria. It is reportedly the second largest group next to WWE. Matches will be broadcast live on Spike.

Peoria Chief's baseball stadium was renamed Dozer Park in a 10-yr, naming agreement between the Chief's and Caterpillar, et al.

Since the Cubs A class team moved to Kane County, is it now a Cardinals A class team?

Of course, there are the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State sports teams. I imagine these are the largest draws of any downstate sports teams.

Wil there be Minor League hockey in Peoria? I wasn't clear on your statement "they won't play in Peoria"

I just found out the other day there is an FC Peoria which is pretty neat, I wish soccer was more of a thing here. Bradley's team is strong but outside of that it has no presence. It's Chicago Fire or bust.

Peoria Soccer and Lacrosse seems to be high school and/or collegiate. The good news is the Peoria Park District Athletics sponsors both for kids. Traditionally, at least in the past, when the PPD sponsored popular sports they spawned adult leagues. Washington, IL started the first Lacrosse league in th area a couple of years ago. It wasn't so long ago that Men's Softball was played on Sunday morning in (lower)Bradley and (upper) Glen Oak Parks.

C-D members who moved from the east coast to B-N were most interested in Lacrosse because their kids played. The parents that started out in the Washington club started a group in Bloomington.
