I may have a chance for a job with Caterpillar where I would have to move to Peoria. I have some questions about the area for any who would have an answer:

1. How far does $100K income go in Peoria or the surrounding area?
2. How good are the public schools in the area?
3. How are the property taxes in the area?

More questions later...

Well, I have to say Peoria is a really nice place, I've been living there for few year and it gives a really nice impression. 100K for Peoria is pretty good for city (townships) like Peoria, as I'm living satisfied a little bit below. I would say Dunlap Schools (ranging from grades to high) is a nice option and there have been private school that are well maintained (e.g. Washington).

I notices all your previous forum posts mention the same thing, just different cities. Are all of the offers from Cat or different companies?

At this point in time the demand for people with my background has grown dramatically. I have recruiters calling all the time with possibilities but I have to research the areas before I make any sort of decision. What I do will remain about the same regardless of where I live so where I live becomes the governing factor.

100K will go really far in this area. Most of the surrounding communities offer really low price housing and low crime. Most of the surrounding school districts are better than district 150 (Peoria). I think property taxes are high in this general area. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Default Welcome to Peoria

Even though I live in Bloomington, I can tell you that first of all $100,000 goes very far in downstate Illinois. Best high schools in metro Peoria in my opinion would probably be Richwoods, Dunlap, Notre Dame. Although Pekin and Metamora are probably better than average as well. No idea on property taxes in Peoria / Tazewell County. WELCOME to the area !!

Welcome to Peoria! Peoria is a great city that most people tend to find grows on them very quickly. It is big enough to play host to its own metro area, but small enough to feel like the small midwestern town that it once was. There are tons of things to do and a healthy and stable economy. 100K income is plenty and you will be able to live a very comfortable lifestyle with it.
