An impending move for a contracting job at Scot AFB may be on my immediate horizon. Because most of the threads about that area go back to 2005-2011, I am hoping for more current feedback from people who lived in that area recently or still live there.

We've been living on an army base and aren't in a big hurry to deal with another private sector property management company fleecing the military and its families. For that reason, we want to go back to living off-base.

We are an older couple with no pets and no children at home anymore. We desire a short commute to the base; a middle to upper-middle-class, 1500 sq ft to 2000 sq ft home or townhouse to rent from an ethical, responsible, respectful property owner or property management company.

We'd like a nice smaller community with a pleasant, even charming if possible, downtown core; low crime; decent grocery stores; and big box stores shopping a few miles away in a nearby town when needed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Grrrr....I just noticed I misspelled Scot but I can find no way to edit it, nor to delete the thread and start over! So anyway, I meant, Scott AFB.
