Don't move to Rockford. It is a sad place. Move to the fringes of the Chicago metro...Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Sycamore, etc.

This x10. I did live in Crystal Lake for several years. It's *much* nicer than Rockford while still close to it, though I'd hardly call that an advantage. I had a membership at the Discovery Center for the kids and caught my share of Ice Hogs games at the Metro Centre (both being more convenient to Crystal Lake than their Chicago area counterparts). If your kids are school age there is no circumstance that would allow me to live in Rockford.

I've got friends there. I went to college there. I worked there. I've got a million reasons to like the place, but I just don't.

That would be an awful commute though. . . My husband thinks the 35 mins from roscoe to airport is bad.

The idea of living in Crystal Lake and commuting to Rockford Airport is ridiculous. Bad enough in the summer but sometimes horrendous in the winter.

Byron is a very nice small community and an easy commute.

Is your husband working at the airport? I'd second the suggestion to look in the Chicago outskirts, but not if it means commuting to the airport everyday.
