Was John Deere born here? I know he started the company here, but didnt know he was actually born here. Cool!

Carl Sandburg and Dick Butkus, how could I forget those two!?!?! I mentioned Red Grange, but forgot Butkus. DOH!

Although we can't officially claim him, I wish we could add former Sen. Paul Simon to this list (he was born in Eugene OR, but will always be "from Illinois" to me)...

Obama is famous even if he wasn't born or raised in Illinois: he didn't have much choice about early childhoold. But he did have a choice after college and that was to adopt Illinois as his home.

He is the first Aftrican-American to ever be elected as editor of the Harvard Law Review, and the first black American to have a real solid - eleven state win lead over Hillary - chance to win the White House. For some one who as not native born, Abraham Lincoln is as famous as anyone ever born.

Perhaps those famous individuals who were not native born but adopted Illinois a nd were later famious like Lincoln should have their own thread? . .
