I interviewed for a job I was fully qualified for and hiring manager thought I was the perfect fit during my phone interview so they brought me in for an in-person interview. I admit I was not having a good day and didn't interview the best and the company didn't hire. Then I interviewed for another company that had a similar position and I totally nailed the interview and they made me an offer on the spot. Now here's the conundrum, on my first day I found out that the client that I will be working for is the company that didn't hire me. I'm afraid that once my employer introduces me to them they are going to realize it was me they didn't hire and they are going to say something uncomplimentary. I am considered a subject matter expert in my specialized field. What do I do? Wait and see and take a risk... or say something first?

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Thank you.

Show up there like a boss and make them sorry they didn't hire you.

What can they say? We didn't like the way he answered the where do you see yourself in 5 years question, and the consulting agency gasps and says oh my god we need to fire the OP right now.

Other than it being a slight bit awkward I don't see any problem for the OP other than to once again prove how stupid and unreliable a typical interview is as a selection tool.

They will be kicking themselves. Do a great job....it's all about networking. Obviously whomever they did hire doesn't have your skills.
