Madigan no longer has a supermajority in the state House. A few more wins in the House and the majority could switch to Republicans in the House.
There was a technical supermajority before the election, but it wasn't a functional one in actuality. Due to that, little has changed to be perfectly honest. As for the House flipping, it's more than just a few seats. The Democrats remain up 16 seats. Both sides shattered campaign financing records last cycle, and the needle barely shifted.

Mind you I'm not saying it's not possible, because it has happened as recently as the mid-90s, but the current majorities remain solid. For historical numbers, this is a good resource.

Illinois could greatly benefit from a more balanced state Government. It's literally the reason I voted for the Republican in almost all state elections. That's what happens when Democrats prove themselves unreliable. People who aren't receiving public pensions choose to shoot themselves in the other foot instead .

Some of the most crippling measures in the current pension crisis' history were instituted under Republican administrations. Shortsightedness coupled with a desire to kick the proverbial can down the road is a bipartisan issue in Illinois. It would appear that very few people thought it wise to ask questions starting in the late '80s and extending all the way up to today.
