Greetings everyone. We are getting ready to move from Dallas, TX, with 2 kids under 3. My husband just started a new job in Loves Park, and I am trying to get a feel for the area since I am unable to travel with the 2 kids right now. We are getting ready to sell our house in Dallas, and are looking to purchase a house soon up there. I have read that Huntley has grown a lot recently but it will be a bit of a commute for my husband. I've also heard about a new hospital that will be built near Belvidere that will be a big deal soon. I will likely stay at home with the kids at first since I am not used to driving in the snow, but can anyone give me some input on how the 2 cities are different? I like the growth I've seen around Huntley already, and it seems farther away from the bad elements I keep reading about. Coming from a neighborhood in Dallas where I am afraid to walk the neighborhood with my kids during the day, I would like to be able to feel safe in our next house. Also, I keep reading about houses with heated garages and heated floors. How important are these? I am sensitive to the cold, so is it worth it to have these things? I know they are nice to have.

I don't think that it's necessary to go all the way out to Huntley. as long as you stay away from rockford. areas like Roscoe, Machesney park, Loves park, Rockton, and Belvedere will be good. If you don't mind small towns, Winnebago and poplar grove are great choices.

Though I have seen some in garages, heated floors are used primarily in bathrooms and kitchens with tile, not vinyl, floors.

Welcome to the area! We have lived in Rockton for 12 years and love it. The Roscoe/Rockton school district is top notch and my boys have received an excellent education. However, it depends on what you are looking for. Huntley is closer to Chicago so therefore has a different feel. My husband works in Algonquin and says it is totally different than it is here in the Roscoe/Rockton area. Huntley has more of a city feel whereas we have more of a small town feel. Housing is much more affordable here, you will get a lot more bang for your buck here. We own a rental home in Loves Park and depending on where you are working is only about a 20 minute drive south of here. We are right off I90 which takes you into Chicago and only 10 minutes away from the new hospital you mentioned, and 5 minutes from the WI/IL border.
