It is the US version of Venezuela.
Uhh no—Illinois is absolutely and unequivocally not the U.S. equivalent of Venezuela; your hyperbole is frankly ridiculous at times.. Spend a week in Venezuela and my guess is that you’d come crawling back to Illinois.

Just give the Dems some more time. The only thing saving us is the Illinois government only runs the state and not the whole country and they can't control monetary policy.

Venezuela
-Government run by corrupt leftists-socialists
-country has rich oil reserves to fuel economy
-Government gave jobs to cronies and spent exorbitantly
-Government ran huge debts to continue unsustainable spending on welfare programs and cronies
-Government corrupted election process to keep failed leaders in power (Maduro)
-Government resists any reform and blames US conspiracy
-Country insolvent and fiscal mismanagement leads to collapse of economy and widespread hyperinflation and shortages of goods
-People fleeing country in droves

Illinois
-Government run by corrupt leftists-socialists
-state has rich city/business base (Chicago area) to fuel economy
-Government gave jobs to cronies and spent exorbitantly
-Government ran huge debts to continue unsustainable spending on cronies
-Government corrupted election process to keep failed leaders in power (ie Madigan)
-Government resists any reform and blames Rauner
-State insolvent and fiscal mismanagement led to economic stagnation relative to rest of region/country, decline in housing market due to insane levels of taxation on residents and businesses.
-State leading US in outflow of residents

A shame my family has lived in the Chicago area for 100 years and I no longer consider this area home rather just a place I am forced to live.
10,000’s of workers (my self included) travel much further than 40 miles to work. That is one of the lamest excuses I’ve ever heard for having to reside in Illinois, especially if you work in the Chicago area. 40 + miles ain’t sh#% and many people wish they only had to travel 40 some miles each way.

This is Chicago. During rush hour going 5 miles can take 30+minutes. A 40 mile commute through the city can easily be 2 hours+ each way a minimum of 1 hour.

-2-5 hours commuting per day
-Vehicle millage 5days*52weeks*90 miles round trip 23,000 miles per year average vehicle millage is $0.50/mile so $11,000 commuting.

That is insane.

Sigh. If only you spent this same amount of effort trying to improve your situation instead of grasping at straws. You probably could, if you tried--I'm also a chemist, and unemployment in our field is pretty darn low right now...

I repeat my previous statement without hesitation: spend a week in Venezuela and my guess is that you’d come crawling back to Illinois.

No doubt the result in Venezuela is way worse. However, the situations are similar. Bad leftist government destroying the potential of a place with all the ingredients for success. Venezuela has some of the richest oil reserves in the world if they could just excise the Chavistas and reform their economic policies they could be one of the most prosperous countries in latin america.

If we could excise Madigan, the idiot Democrats, and get rid of the insane pensions and union rules, and ridiculous redundant structure of Illinois government Illinois could once again be a jewel of the midwest. With Madigan and his smelly sock puppet JB in power that won't happen but hey at least they won't be able to blame Rauner anymore for their corruption and mismanagement.

That’s why you leave BEFORE rush hour! I would leave at 4:45-5:15 am (hour commute) for a 7 am start. It was sometimes 2 hours on the way home because of rush hour. At least you know where your going to everyday, my job site changes constantly and very rarely is it less than an hour. Of course, you’ll never hear me complain about it.

And I thought liberals worried about carbon footprints.

I went through all the bad options after my mom passed away.

-Leave a very good job that is hard to get in my profession. I've worked for a lot of really sh*tty employers in my profession and the largest employers of Chemists in the area Abbvie, Baxter, Pfizer, Pepsi don't even hire their chemists and use contract agencies. I used to get harassed by agencies daily about their crappy job until I changed my cell #.

-Rent with 2 pets I plugged the numbers into a lot of reputable calculators and if you are stuck here long term even with a stagnating real estate market and soaring taxes buying is still most likely the best option. I have the option of AirBNB or renting a room as a worst case scenario with taxes. Also I choose Dupage county which is a hair more conservative than Cook and at least I don't have to deal with President TP and her ilk.

-Commute from Indiana. I went through all the reasons above. Very expensive, time consuming, increased risk of accidents from millage and bad weather not a good option.

In short I picked the best bad option. I still think at some point the people will get so fed up they will either demand changes or we will see violence when people start choosing a second amendment option to defend their homes from evil, corrupt, leftist, tyrants. I know I am going to celebrate when Mike Madigan dies.

However I have this old fashioned notion that the government should be of the people by the people and for the people. That is government is something we create, where we choose representatives, to serve the citizenry and enhance their quality of life. When a government does not do that, serves themselves, and becomes a quality of life problem for residents to the point they are fleeing it is no longer a government. What we have are racketeers charging protection money and if you don't pay people with guns will eventually show up and make you pay.

So how is the government of Illinois any different from the godfather? Either pay exorbitant property taxes, for the benefit of cronies, or armed deputies will evict you and sell your house. I'm sorry but that is the definition of tyranny and noone in the USA should live in tyranny. Our "government" is farce and a disgrace.

Dupage may be a hair more conservative but, they love there schools and the majority of your tax bill will be for schools. But, at least you will appreciation.
