I think this chart from article above is pretty telling and I'd expect it to accelerate with JB at the helm.

Yeah, well New York has almost 20 million people and only lost 3,000 more than Illinois. Expect the population loss to accelerate.

Have fun, Moved from Marengo to the Gainesville Area in 1999 and left in 2004, Dad moved the same year and left in 2016 @ 70 years old. It took him longer to get sick of the heat. Hurricanes, Bugs and snakes than me. We both live in Northern Wisconsin on the Michigan border now. 4 foot of frozen water outside is easier to deal with than 4 foot of liquid water on the inside.

Oh, my goodness! We are aware of hurricanes in this area but at our stage in life, we want the oceanside in our lives. We've dreamed of this for years and after a health scare we have made the leap because life is short. We can always go elsewhere if Florida isn't for us. Both retired now.

All the best to you and hope you are doing well.

Note that the exodus is being led by those over 65. Of course, they are those with the most freedom to leave. This is a concern since they are a boon to the State. No children to educate, less use of the roadways, their health is insured. I understand Rauner wanted punitive taxes on seniors, though they never made it through. I hope the State addresses this (though that is a tall order).

No it is reasonably consistent across all age groups.

He wanted to tax pensions to get us out of the mess that those that handed out the HUGE, GOVERNMENT PENSIONS created. Why shouldn't pensioners have to pay taxes like everyone else?

100% agree. That's been my solution to the pension mess all along. Tax public pensions say 10% and then roll all of that revenue into future pension benefits creating a compounding reduction effect. For people living out of state call it an "administrative fee". Then switch all future pensioners to a 401k. Problem solved.
