The agency has been under scrutiny after an investigation by the Daily Herald that found potential political favoritism involving hiring and contracts.

That includes hiring Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin's sister-in-law as engineering manager, although her background is in furniture sales; using a PR firm whose CEO is the wife of a Republican lawmaker on a $6.6 million contract; and selecting an engineering firm that employs the grown children of tollway executives for a $157 million contract.

For the entire 40 years we lived in n. Illinois the Tollway Authority reeked of corruption. Stories of suspected wrongdoing came out every so often, but nothing changed. Why now? Good for the Daily Herald, though. I hope it gets cleaned up.

It’s only a problem if the corruption is led by Democrats.

Isn't it almost always Democrats since they generally run everything here?

Seems it’s more a human nature thing for whoever is in power and less a party affiliation thing is my point. Before Blagojevich was elected in 2003, Republicans controlled the governorship for 26 consecutive years. Blagojevich followed in Ryan’s footsteps of corruption. And since everything is always Democrats’ fault in this state, look who was in charge when this entire pension mess started (hint, it wasn’t a Democrat):

Well, I have only lived in Illinois since 99 and for most of that time, it's been the Democrats.

Irrelevant point, since the republican governors in Illinois have NEVER had real power, since both houses have been dominated by the Democratic crooks for the last 20-40 years, who made sure they had veto power/constitutional protection over anything a repub tried to enact
