I agree, but keep in mind this is not true in all districts. Default time is typically later in the suburbs (for non-early bird classes) with many districts also adding a late start day or two during the week.

I never started school before 8:30.

It is typically earlier than that now because some districts have added a period and sometimes the early period. YMMV

Just checked. My suburban high school is literally the same schedule as when I graduated early 2000s. That seems less common than other districts though. My wife typically started an hour earlier than me at a different public high school in the burbs. The only thing that starts early at my former high school is band, which is consistent with when I attended.

The school district we live in is changing their school hours next year the elementary school will be starting an hour later at 9:15 and the middle school will be starting an hour later at 8:30. Next year will be my first year with a middle schooler so I was very surprised to hear that the middle school started at 7:30, seemed a bit early to me but of course it's been a few years since I was in school and I didn't grow up in Illinois so perhaps that's the difference

Is this a rural area? A 7:30am start is shocking for any middle school district (or kids) that I know.

Nope, not a rural area at all, we're in the Belleville area. I don't get it either

It depends on the district I think, but yeah, 7:20 is too early
