The best metro areas in IL outside of the Chicago area: Champaign, Bloomington/Normal, Peoria.

Regarding Morton, white collar office workers from CAT built the town. It is a great area if you like to walk, bike, or run. The schools are supposed to be good. The park district is very well run. The restaurants are crap. Most natives are unfriendly and can be quite toxic to transplants. However, most people tend to mind their own business.

Washington has more of a mix of white and blue collar neighborhoods. Houses are cheaper than in Morton. The restaurants are also crap. The sidewalks are not as walkable as in Morton. However, it is easier to drive to the north side of Peoria from Washington than from Morton.

I have heard beautiful things about Germantown Hills. The newer houses tend to be huge, and the subdivisions are very nice. I don't know much else about the area.

Regardless of which of the three aforementioned "bedroom towns" you select, there is plenty to do if you are willing to drive into Peoria.

I would research the history of tornadoes in the area as well as the health risks of living near commercial farms before moving...

I'm kind of familiar with both because I travel to the area for work. I actually just was in Morton on my way back to northern Illinois from the St. Louis area last week.

Anyways, Washington and Morton are blue collar, middle class towns. Washington has an older feeling to it and I like the circle/plaza that downtown is built around like other towns in central and southern Illinois, however Morton is right off of I-74 and has easier access to downtown Peoria and the other cities in central Illinois.

I was researching the history of local floods and the dangers of living near commercial farms before I left. www.filingtoday.com
