Today is the long awaited day of legalization for Illinois. Have a good time folks just stay off the roads and be safe.

Ugh, I can't wait. Better than putting people in jail over ditchweed, I guess, plus we get the tax dollars from it (until the black market starts undercutting "legal" prices). I was in Vegas for the first time in a decade last February, and while walking the Strip, told a friend "I smell a skunk, I didn't think they had those in Vegas". He laughed and said, "Somebody nearby is smoking a joint". Not sure when MJ started smelling like a polecat's azz.

The people of IL. are brain dead enough already without adding a brain numbing drug to them. This is going to be a disaster here. Those 11,000 porky pardoned are nothing like the numbers that will get convicted on higher charges.

Speaking of brain dead, this post is a great example.

Well it certainly will open prison bunks for those convicted of higher charges .....

As an resident of Illinois, I resent being called brain dead. It sounds like you have all the answers. Run for office and get things the way they should be.

I hope people realize that just because it is legal doesn't mean your employer won't sack you if you test positive for it. Cannabis users are not a protected class.

This reciept was posted on the Second City Cop blog today. I have been told, purely second hand of course lol, that 1/8 ounce (3.5g), costs around $40-50, tax-free, on the street. So not only is legal weed substantially more costly to start with, there's a 34% effective tax rate on top of that!

So how, exactly, is this going to help solve the budget crisis? No one except rich people are going to be able to afford it. I guess the good news for the common weed smoker is that the Governor pardoned all the former dealers, but this may be problematic for the rest of us.

That receipt is a bad example because they included concentrates (THC >35%) and infused to muddy the water. Stick with flower only and taxes will be reasonable. That's true that an eighth is ~$40 black market, but prices will come down. Prices were initially high in Colorado too, but I've heard that a legal ounce can now be had for less than $100.

Look at a map and note that every bordering state is still illegal. Illinois stands to make a killing here as money literally pours over the border!

I loathe Democrats, but this is one thing they actually got right, IMO.
