So I thought maybe if the tax didn't pass, the exodus might slow down but it is not looking like that is the case. My husband works for a Fortune 500 company and apparently many people are asking HR if they can never come back to the office and work from out of state.

And of course they will raise taxes on everyone now, as much as they can. I wonder how many people have figured THAT out yet. I was amazed at how few knew about the 'fair' tax even a few months ago. People here bury their head in the sand.

Note that downtown Chicago was looted because the cops were effectively ordered to stand down and allow it to happen by Lighthead and Company. Also note that no one was kicking down the doors of private residences in the suburbs, largely because there is a shotgun behind every third one. Enter Sleepy Joe and gun control; obviously, your ability to defend yourself and your property is a problem for those who at least implicitly desire to use the Mob to intimidate anyone who would stand against them. Evidenced by AOC's recent comment that "A list needs to be made of Trump supporters"; presumably for what end?

Be very afraid of this crowd, folks, the re-education camps aren't far behind their current rhetoric. It's always the ones who want to control the people "for their own good". Fascism is still fascism no matter how many times you call it anti-fascism, the Seattle and Portland Brownshirts must laugh their butts off every time they use the phrase.
I don't even know what the pd could have done there, at least in terms of the "caravan" looting that went on downtown. There's a fella on youtube, "Bloody Chicago", he's got videos up of what all that was about. There were SO many vehicles full of looters, totally nuts! They would jam the street with cars, 4 across and 20 deep, the drivers would stay with the cars while the "undocumented shoppers" would do their thing. This wasn't some sporadic thing, somebody definitely formulated a plan.

I don't know if we're allowed to post links, but here goes:

Tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, water cannons, arsonists get real bullets, batons, tasers. There is no shortage of anti-mob weapons technology.

Florida's got the right idea on this. NO WAY would Illinois politicians pass a law that would alienate a key demographic - but tell me, which state would YOU rather open a business in?
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...163932876.html

My own solution was for people living in high-rises above the looted stores, to start throwing golf balls, cans of soup, "whatever", at the "cars parked four abreast waiting for looters to return with the goods". The cops would have an easier time spotting cars leaving with their windows smashed out than not, and it would take all the fun out of looting five-hundred bucks worth of stuff if your car sustained a thousand bucks in damage during the spree. Maybe they need to install those spikes that come out of the pavement to flatten tires like they have around embassies, etc..

Do you know what happens when you don't punish bad behavior? You get more bad behavior.

I would so love to see that happen!

I'm down with all of that...rain down hell on all this lawlessness, especially from the populace. I'm just saying the cops were overwhelmed at the time.

But personally, my own bigger takeaway from all this is that something bigger is amiss. Media is blatantly downplaying/half-reporting utter lawlessness, all the while sensationalizing "institutional racism" and some such...just stirring the pot.

It's totally obvious, even this stuff that just went down in DC. Media reports that "fights" broke out between pro and anti-trump. Just a quick trip to youtube showed it was actually pro-trumpers being bombarded by masked thugs. People being sucker punched from behind while walking to their hotels, heads stomped on when they're down, People with teen kids in tow in utter terror as they're surrounded by these brownshirt thugs, it's really scary. I've seen vids of nazi-era pogroms, it didn't look much different than this stuff going on now.

An article about the “Illexodus”.

But who is moving? People who feel marginalized by Chi-town’s domination of the state?

The Tribune and other sources have reported that 2020 was another year for Illinois hemorrhaging residents and it is the worst year yet.

The Illinois population plummet is intensifying. Tuesday morning, new U.S. Census Bureau estimates reported a seventh straight year of losses — and this plunge is greater than the last six.

We left in 1980 before the state started going bad. Haven't been back since. Don't miss it.

We'll find out in the next census but a big chunk has been the underclass who feel like they just don't have any job opportunities here. Many of Chicago's poor neighborhoods have been emptying out for some time now, and I'm guessing the latest crime wave will only speed up that process. And of course the rural farm areas have been depopulating for a while now too.

You must miss the state if you keep looking at this forum after leaving so long ago.
