Tennessee or Florida make the most sense. No income tax and low property taxes.

Income tax doesn't concern me as much as property taxes. If you are retired on a $40K income a 5% $2k income tax bill isn't nearly as devastating as a $10k property tax bill on your $333k house. Also any little school council or governing body can raise it to whatever they want with little press nor accountability. The turnout for those podunk off year municipal elections often held in Feb to further keep the votes down is as little as 20% The union workers in that district and the parasites, I mean beneficiaries of the taxes have a much louder voice as a result.

Income tax hikes get more attention and the politicians that institute it more often face repercussions.

My theory is you aren't going to be able to run from this. Nashville is getting very blue due to the transplants from mostly Democratic run states. If you're comfortable out in the country or in a smaller city, you may be ok in TN, but I expect Nashville to adopt many of the same policies that you see in leftist areas over time. And personally, being used to Chicago, that is the only city in TN I'd even consider.

Ditto for FL. It was very close last election, and the continued migration of people from NY, NJ, MA and other east coast areas will certainly change policy there too over time. Let's watch GA tomorrow. If I had to bet, my money would be on the Democrats retaking the Senate, but we will see. It'll be close. But perhaps less close next election. A lot of migration from Democrat areas, particularly to the Atlanta area. That's eventually going to wag the GA dog, just like Chicago wags the IL dog.

Arizona went for Biden too. They have a ~4% income tax rate but ~0.60% property tax rate.

Almost all the major cities tend to get taken over by leftists the determining factor is if there is enough votes in the rest of the state to avoid the state govt getting taken over by leftists. There are always suburbs and peripheral satellite cities that remain fairly conservative.

IMO the state's internal politics are more important than their presidential voting record. There are states that are perpetually red or perpetually blue in presidential elections yet the opposite party remains competitive in state-level politics.

State and especially local elections have a bigger impact on one's day to day life than national, that is also my opinion. That's why I'd avoid making a huge life change to move to a Nashville, Austin, Atlanta, Louisville, Denver, Portland, etc. If it was otherwise convenient fine, but I wouldn't uproot my life to run from Chicago to one of those places. No way.

Tucson is popular among one of my bike clubs especially riding Mt Lemmon. I would definitely keep that on my list. Though I found some nice cycling the year I lived in NE GA just outside of Athens. Trips to the mountains, rural roads.

Yeah, I think Tuscon is the trail biking capital of the world!

If you're into bike riding, Arizona has more bike lanes and paths than any state in the usa, I believe..EVERY main street has a defined marked, bike lane here in the phoenix area, and endless trails for moutain bikers everywhere in arizona..

as if on cue human shaped turd Madigan pushes an income tax increase.

Madigan has told lawmakers he’s prepared to vote to increase the state’s income tax rate.
I wish the earth would just open up an send him to h#ll to burn.

so far to their credit, or more likely running the other way from Madigan, most of the other Dems are saying no.
