Can you believe it? Three cities combining into one! Illinois, most will agree, has too many municipalities and other units of government. I know, power is addicting and few mayors want to give it up. And clearly, elimination of useless units won't save a huge amount, but it makes sense. I hope the voters approve it.

The Metro-East area suffers similar issues that the south suburbs of Chicago suffer. I wonder if we'll see similar consolidation of some of those villages as well.


It will be interesting to see what happens if this goes through.

So we'll have two mayors, two city managers and duplicating city employees lose their jobs. Cronies won't be laid off, so they'll have to actually lay off people who actually do their jobs.
