I know this thread is old but hope someone out there is still reading it. I am trying to find out more about my father's family that lived in Logan. Their last name is Sanders, it was a large family. One of my uncles was killed in Chicago and another in a construction accident. If anyone reads this please let me know if you remember any of the family. One aunt also married a Meachum.

Thats odd, a couple years ago when I posted here I couldn't even find Logan, but now my GNIS query pinpointed it; see this. Also I crosschecked the name Sanders on find a grave, only including Franklin county and found lots of results you should take a look at this link.

I have been to Logan quite a few times since my last post on here. I do remember the name Sanders when I was growing up as a kid. Always spent all summer there with my Grandma and Grandpa. Grew up with quite a few of the kids there. I still have one Aunt that was raised there and I am sure she will remember the name Sanders if I do. If you can give me some first names that will give me something to start on. My grandpa was a Coal Miner there when I was a kid. I talked to the Mayor the last time I was there when I was looking for information. I will be more than happy to do some more research for you and give you names and phone numbers for contacts there.

Default Logan

Hi Lee Ann,
When did you leave Logan? My Grandma and Grandpa lived there all their lives. My little brother was born there in Logan. My Grandpa and Grandma lived in the house right across the street from the cemetary there on the hiway going into Logan. There is two churches side by side there. After I mad the original post I have been to Logan probally five or six times. The last time was for burying my Dad there in the Logan Cemetary.

We might know a lot of the same people there. Bandy's, Joplin's, Frost,
Williams and that is just a few of the names. Can't forget Herlongs either.

Get in touch maybe we can find out who we all know from there.

Dan

danbomo, I posted a reply yesterday just came upon this site by accident. Found it interesting. My dad was born and raised in Logan. I lived there until I was 21. When I was there it was a nice place to grow up. Went to Grade School in West Frankfort but High School in Benton.

Dan,
That is VERY interesting! Who were your grandparents? Our house was caddy corner from the cemetery. Between Logan Elementary school and cemetery. We lived on the opposite side of the street. My maiden name was Moore. My dad was Morse Moore. He was born and raised there. I had an older brother named David. As I said I moved away to Calif when I was 21. My dad had passed away when I was a senior in high school. I went to nursing school and worked there a while but then moved and a year or so later my mother sold the house and moved to Calif also.

Lee Ann

Dan, I look at this site every now and then. Just find it interesting, especially since Logan is such a small town. Also see things posted about Benton too. I went to High School there but went to grade school in West Frankfort. Lived in Logan until I was 21. Guess your grandparents were my neighbors. I knew all the families of the names you mentioned. Post something if you want to I am sure we know a lot of the same people.

Default Logan, Benton and West Frankfort

Hi Lee Ann, glad to hear from you. Not sure how to do it but I will try and send you a private message with my email address in it. I have just recently gotten in contact with numereous people that you might know from Logan, Benton and West Frankfort. One of them Mark Joplin and all his kids, just too many names to mention. I will see if I can figure out how to get you a personal message.

Once again great too hear from you.
Dan
