Ew gross, DO NOT MOVE TO ROCKFORD. Move to NWI or just across the border in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Read the OP. It says Illinois...not IN or WI.

Doesn't matter, those are basically IL and are far and away better options than Rockford.

They have a very nice sporting facility RecPlex, lovely roads for cycling, I'm sure there are some bars and stuff, not far from Kenosha which has a lovely lakefront. Also not too far from Lake Geneva. SE WI is not a bad option it depends what you like.

If you like outdoor activities and not having to worry about a terrible government taxing people out of their homes and failing in nearly all of their core functions than it is better than Illinois.

Wow for $120,000, you might not get much unless you are living in maybe downstate Illinois. dont forget that taxes will be very high in Illinois.

For those two reasons, people are moving OUT of illinois and moving to Arizona and elsewhere. I know someone who moved out of Illinois and to Phoenix, AZ and they met a lot of folks who left illinois due to corrupt politics, high taxes and everything costing more than usual.

i'd move to either Indiana, Iowa or Wisconsin but perhaps near the Illinois border.

Your $120,000 in Arizona will buy you a lot but a lot less in Illinois. Even rents are higher here.

The point is you're near Illinois. It's not like Pleasant Prairie is great it's like having your cake and eating it too.

I am considering a move back to the Midwest to be closer to my family in Missouri. However, I do not want to live in conservative Missouri again though.

I have been looking into Illinois. What are your opinions about Metro East, especially Belleville? It seems to be nice and quiet with St. Louis being a short drive away.

I am also open to living in North Shore near Chicago. It all depends on wherever I will get a job as a school guidance counselor. I do not think I will have any issues with being hired based on my years of experience.

hate to tell you, but that has all changed in Arizona, and 120,000 wont buy you a refrigerator box on the side of the highway any longer..

In less than 4 years here, the price of my house in the Phoenix area has almost DOUBLED from what I paid for it, and houses typically sell the same day they are listed, all at OVER listing price..

there is still time to move here and pay less than in Chiraq, but that time is fading fast..

Eh, your entire point seems to be turning people away from living in Illinois. Sure, that works for you, but that's pretty much exactly not what the OP asked for and not everyone shares your passion.

Pleasant Prairie is also a weird comparison to Rockford, because it's a very different kind of place and not just in terms of being in a different state.
