Thank you for sharing. I would say, that in this day and age, the information you provided IS relevant.

Yet, I think there are going to be people (my SELF included) that just hold onto the language that we were raised on.... I am bilingual/bicultural European-American and Mexican-American. And I certainly DO use the terms "latino(s)" and "latina(s)".

so I GUESS if anyone wants to chastise me or cancel me or "whatever" me, they certainly have that right to TRY.
Yeah, and it's fine to still use Latina and Latino. Some people just take it out of proportion and say that Latinx shall be used in all instances and cancel people for no reason. When I'm talking about a dude, I'll use Latino and vice-versa. When I'm talking about a group that has both guys and girls, I'll use Latinx and Latino. Latinx is still a pretty new word and the only generations using are still relatively young; Millenials and Gen Z's.

G in MP, good morning.

Well you know I travel from Milwaukee to Chicago (in fact, going to look for a hotel for me and kids there tonight), so we can find a cool place in Lake County.

Shoot me a message on here, mi hermanx.

FoxValleyTrotter, good morning.

You just be YOU. I'm sure whatever term(s) you use are with respect; and to me, THAT is what always matters first!

That we come from a good place in our words and actions. We are not responsible for how the entire world receives them.

...who are also mostly white liberals. I know a whole lot of puerto ricans and mexicans and all sorts of other spanish-speaking people, I never heard one of them use "latinx" in any way other than to get a laugh out of it.

Let's de-gender the term used to refer to a peoples, who's very language is entirely based on masculine and feminine nouns. Doh!

G in MP, we can see where part of the argument is that the language IS a male-dominant, and a male-oriented language.

Case in point that adjectives will change to match the male. You are aware that in a group of 9 women and 1 man, the term "ellos" which is a masculine term is used to define a group that is 90% female and 10% male!

...

Did you all just read that last statement???.... Notice in English: woMAN. feMALE.

Languages areale dominant because historically that is how the culture has been.

I have seen the term: womyn, for example, to counter it.

....

Is it wrong to change, to seek gender equality in the language? Doing so MAY suggest gender equality in the culture!

Forgive me. I'm a Counselor. I have to try to see both sides of a logical debate.

Yes, I'm aware of all that my man. And it's not an issue until it became an issue, because western man (and WOman) is bored! There's not enough real problems to solve in the western world, so we must manufacture them.

G in MP, Amen! ( no pun intended!)

And for me, if folks are making an issue out of a "word", then that makes me happy because then something like Covid can't be THAT big of a concern!

Peace!

Now, find us a Nelleys-equivalent in Lake County where we can grab a cup, and a good chat!

What constitutes a metro area?.
Cuz' I can assure everyone, the Dekalb and Sycamore area is turning into one; these 2 towns are booming.
There is on-going construction everywhere, and a lot more traffic.
