Kmanshouse, very interesting!

Well, I know we are glad to have the Lincoln Square that we have!

Although, it IS changing. And not always, exactly, in the BEST of ways, in my own perspective... But overall, it is still in my top 3 favorite neighborhoods!!

I was there Sunday night, struck up a fantastic conversation with this older couple on the patio of Garcia's. It was so nice to hear their stories of Lincoln Square from the 80s and 90s!!! I told them I did not "discover' it until around 2014.

They kept asking me where in Chicago I was from, because I knew about the history, the neighborhoods, etc.

I was honored!!!!

You discovered it before me. 2018 for me, then moved here in 2019.

I haven't felt it's changed that much since then. Brauhaus was the big loss, that was closing right when we got here. Huettenbar's replacement is fine, it's not the same, but it's fine.

There are a handful of empty storefronts that I hope get filled soon. But it's not easy right now out there.

The area right around the Western stop has had a couple of bad incidents, and that spot is ugly as ever to look at.

The apartment above me rented out in the first week - people are still finding it desirable for sure. For Rent signs don't last long.

My cousin lived on Sunnyside and Leavitt in the 90s, and she remembered when the Starbucks was added. She said the neighborhood was nowhere near as nice as it is now, and all the stores had bars over the windows 30 years ago.

So this is one of the areas that's improved during that time instead of the other way around.

Kmanshouse,

I hear you.

Oh I miss Brau Haus, passionately!!! I know somewhere on here on one of these threads I mentioned back in 2017 when I went in there and some truly elderly woman pulled ME onto the dance floor with her!

Huettenbar was pretty cool. They had THE WORST cabernet I ever drank in my life (when I was served that gut rot at the Edison Park Inn as well), I learned to ask for the brand name before I ever actually ordered a cabernet!

So yeah, I DO miss the demographics changing over the years.

And honestly, since 2014, there HAVE been more and more instances of blatant crimes taking place that I just NEVER heard about before. And remember the time I had to intervene on the domestic abuse situation? GLAD I have not witnessed anything like that, since! NOT a good look!!!

And I just read the Dutch Pancake house on Western is not reopening. I remember I had a nice date there once.

Great memories of Lincoln Square. Here's to a TON more!!

Ha, nice. Thankfully, in my section of LS, there has been zero crime at all. Also, thankfully of the 302 murders in Chicago so far this year, none of been in LS (I think there were 2 last year out of the 800). Not a single one. I thank God for that.

The area west of Western is a little more inconsistent, but I love the Rockwell strip and we eat at Rockwell Bar and Grill often - great food and such a nice family hangout. We haven't ventured much west of Rockwell, where the neighborhood changes somewhat.

I still think that the enclave between Western Ave (but not ON Western Ave) and Ravenswood Ave (east/west), and between Winnemac Park and Montrose (north/south) is the best spot in Chicago to be for people who want a safe, charming, and engaging place to live.

Kmanshouse, Sir, wasn't there a murder in Lincoln Square, near Bryn Mawr. I believe he was an Asian man.

There are some place along Lincoln Avenue, west of Western Avenue, that are nice. MCDONALD's!!!

Try Rainbow Tacos, where Shelly's Freeze was!

And I DO like the Bowmanville section for peace and quiet. AND for San Soo Gab San!!!!

Kmanshouse, time is flying TOO fast. I was like, 25-years-old 5 years,,,,, or 25 years ago!

Don't forget to take a trip to downtown Libertyville, on Milwaukee Avenue. It always reminds me of The Square.

Let me know what you think.

And if you go north of the CITY ofcmy town, Milwaukee, go to Cedarburg. A very similar sentiment, me thinks!
