The news piece linked by the op is from WMAQ tv & contains data material straight from the Census Bureau and specifically mentions the several other states that were similarly under-counted as well as the several that were over-counted.
Despite those self-acknowledge errors from the Census Bureau, it's unfortunate that for Illinois and others the 2020 count will remain as first published.
