Hi folks,

My wife and I currently live and work and Springfield, IL. She may be offered a job in Bloomington. I am definitely keeping my job. Is there a town with good school districts (we have a 3-year-old) we could move to along the 55 corridor that would split the difference? Lincoln is in the middle distance-wise, but the school districts are not that great. Maybe I need to think about towns further west or east off of 55? Any advice appreciated!

Thank you!

I almost think it's better to stay in one or the other just so you're in a bigger city with more amenities. But, the commute is long, though after construction season it is usually pretty smooth (right now there are major delays). I'm sure you know this, but north of Springfield is Sherman, and then north of Sherman is Williamsville. Williamsville school district serves Sherman and Williamsville and the schools are excellent. And, living around Williamsville would save you 20-25 minutes to Bloomington. Sherman is also a little bit of a time saver, but not quite as much, unless you live right off 55. It would still be 45 minutes from Williamsville with good traffic, but it makes a big difference.

There's other towns between Lincoln and Bloomington - McLean, Funks Grove, Atlanta, but I don't know much about their school districts.

I haven't heard great things about Lincoln schools either (you might want to check with someone who really knows the city), but since Lincoln really is right in between Springfield and Bloomington, anything else is going to be closer to one than the other.

You should just move to Bloomington. Much nicer community than Springfield.
