hi all! my family and i are getting ready to move to champaign soon and i was wondering where is the best place to live? i know that this is a college town and we are not really interested in having an apt w a bunch of college students.. sorry, weve been there and now as we r in our 30s w a 15 month old we are looking for a more family oriented part of town to reside in. what is there to do? any good daycares? is there alot of family things to do? just wanting some info to have an idea of what to expect. thank you for your time and suggestions!

Hi, Kimber.

I live in the Champaign Urbana (CU) area. Actually, I live in Mahomet which is just a few miles NW of CU. CU is getting pretty expensive and growing all the time. Small towns like Mahomet and Monticello, Savoy, St. Joseph are all safe and very family oriented. Many people live in these towns and commute to CU. Mahomet is growing and has a nice grocery store, natural foods store, farmers' market and new bar (town just went wet) downtown. Very small and nice town. You can be as involved in these small towns as much or little as you like. Lots of houses for sale, too!

I don't have kids, but I think the smaller area towns have very nice schools. Best of luck!

I'm actually in the process of selling my home and moving out of town to Louisville, KY, right now and it's given me a little more insight into Champaign than I really got while living here.

There are multiple, numerous neighborhoods that would be considered family friendly in this area and away from the college influence. I myself live in south Champaign, almost Savoy, and like my end of town. My recommended neighborhoods would be almost anything in between Neil St and Prospect, from Springfield Ave south to Savoy. There are a couple of square miles of nice, family-oriented neighborhoods there and I'd have to have more information before I could get more specific.

Good luck with your move!
