Did anyone else get to watch it unfold? By far the coolest thunderstorm Ive ever been in. Heading out to Elburn after work to pick up my son, I noticed off to the NW there were some dark clouds. Yeah, boy were they ever dark, the darkest Ive seen before. Anyways, I pull over behind 2 other cars and start snapping off pics, as they were doing as well. The first pic is crappy, taken while driving, but you get the picture on how dark and menacing this sucker was. WHOA!

Then the sunset that followed.... amazing. The camera didnt do it any justice whatsoever, not even close. An amazing, glowing ball of orange light, surrounded by purple and blue, with amazing bolts of horizontal-travelling lightning and deep, deep, deep roaring thunder. First pic is with the flash, hence the reflection on the raindrops:

W/o flash to expose the colors better. Its a shame I dont have a good camera, this wouldve been a sight to behold if I had a Canon 1D MKII.

Hang tight, Ill post the other 4 pics I took, that I actually stopped and set up.

What made the experience even more cool was the song playing on the radio... Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight". How fitting was that?!?! "I can feel it coming in the air tonight.... hold on". lol

Am I underwater or something? Reminds me of ocean waves rolling over you when youre underwater and looking up, doesnt it?

Whats funny is that that storm was a complete puppy dog. It rained really hard (had to put the wipers on full speed) for about 5 minutes, then it was a constant medium rain for about 30 minutes, then light rain after that. Some nice thunder and lightning, and about 2 minutes of 30-40 mph winds, and that was it. I was expecting A LOT more than that! lol

Yeah we didn't get real heavy rain in the city either, though we had some bitchin' lightning most of the night
