Hi everyone, this is my maiden post! I have been reading along for a month or so, and finally decided that this is a good first post topic.I love going to thrift/junk stores to look for bargains, and I also think it is a fun way to spend some alone time(what little I get)Here is the problem. I can't find any good ones in my area. I live in Pekin, and we have one good one that I know of(Cliff's). I know we used to have more, but they have either closed or relocated, and I can't find them.I'm willing to drive a distance of between 20-30 miles. I know we have alot of little farm communities surrounding Pekin, so hopefully someone can give me some ideas.I would appreciated any ideas as to where or how to find the beloved, dusty, old junk stores!!Thanks, Julie

The Pink Shutter in Lincoln. Mission of Hope in Havana; limited hours. St. Francis Episcopal shoppe in Chillicothe 274-6427. And there used to be a thrift shop run by the Catholic Diocese in Peoira. Many times Salvation Army and/or Goodwill have store, too. If you can't find it in Pekin, look on the internet in Springfield.

Of these I've tried tof a year to cheak out the Mission and never seem to get there when it is supposed to be open. I've shopped for years at the Pink Shutter. It's amazzing what you can find there.

There are two pawn shops on Adams St in down town Peoria. They are right next to each other across from the Bus terminal.

There is also on on Jefferson and Spring St. close to down town.

We have a resale store in Peoria, IL called Stephanies Discount Depot. It may not be that dusty, lol, but we have a lot of cool stuff. Just check our website for a sample of our merchandise at stephaniesdiscount.com or stop by our store at 2512 N Knoxville

You should try going to some of the local auctions to get bargains on antiques, glassware and "junque". Some good ones are: Pfeiffer's in south Pekin on Tuesday evening; Keisewitter in Creve Couer - various auction times/dates; River City on Sundays - if you can stand the dirty conditions but at times have great junk; Schmigdall in Eureka - various times and dates - super good auction.

These are just a few and you can find dates and times of auctions on auctionzip web site. Plus auctions give you something to do and it won't cost you unless you buy!

I know this thread is pretty old, but if anyone's still looking for a nice thrift store, there's a place that specializes in music and furniture in Springfield called Recycled Records. It's pretty kitschy, but there are some good finds if you look hard enough. It's also right downtown, so if you are there for the day visiting the touristy stuff or doing business, it's really easy to stop in:
