Wow! After reading all the threads about B/N, I am really convinced that we are making the right choice with moving to B/N. Thanks so much for all the input. I have some questions that I did not see specifically addressed - sorry if I overlooked them.

1) Schooling for our 5 year-old is the main reason that we are leaving Phoenix and moving to the midwest. It seems that there are some really great elementary schools in Unit 5, Grove and Northpoint - I have heard wonderful things about. However, I am not sure if we are going to wind up in those boundaries. What I am wondering is are there elementary schools in Unit 5 that are really not that good (extreme classroom mgmt problems, poor parental involvement, low standards set for students, etc)? What about Bloomington schools (87, I think)?

2) We are going to be renting for a bit before we buy a house. In Phoenix, rentals of all sizes are a dime a dozen and everywhere! It does not seem to be the same in B/N. I have looked online and found a few property mgmt companies and also seen some ads in the Pantagraph for houses/apts for rent. What is the best way to go about finding a rental? We are hoping for a 3bd/2ba in NE area. What are the rental ranges?

3) Anything else I should know or seek information on?

Thanks so much!

My sister teaches at Colene Hoose which is an elementary school in Normal that is in the UNIT -5 School District. She has been there for 12 years and has never mentioned any the problems you listed as your concerns.

What is your price range for housing? I live in the Peoria area and frequently am in BN. Are you looking for a rental house or apartment?

Thanks mdand3boys. We are hoping to stay as much under $1000 as possible. We would love to find a rental house with 3bd and 2ba in the Unit 5 area (Hoose, Northpoint, Grove, Prairieland Elementary area) but can live with a 2 bd apartment in those school areas for a year. Do you have any suggestions?

Default so how did things turn out

So, did you make the move? Was it what you expected? How are the schools?

We did make the move. The area is a little slower and much smaller than the big metro area of Phx, but that is what I expected. The schools here are hit or miss. It seems that pretty much most of the elelmentary schools have really good merit and it just all depends on what teacher you get. The middle schools are a bit worrisome as the JR high schools/high schools have very little tolerance for those students that do not fit the "mainstream" mode.
