I ran across this article and really couldn't believe it.

I love animals and personally feel that training a dog to fight just isn't right.

Does anyone know the Federal/Illinois law concerning violation of animal cruelty laws? I personally think the dog owners should be punished, but with Illinois planning to release prisoners they most likely will get a big fine and start training a new dog the next day...or even that same day.

Just my opinion of course.

Most of the cities I lived in have very restrictive laws concerning aggressive animals. Those states also did not sanction dog or bird fighting, but if you knew where to look, you could find it. I always thought it was about the fight until I met a breeder. It's a dirty little secret. It's a blood sport where thousands of dollars can change hands in one night. It is not boxing.

There are no rules. There is only one winner in each fight. In a good location fights can go on until there are no other animals to put up. Fights might last two hours or 24 - it depends upon a number of things: location, number of entries, crowd size, size of bets and whether or not the cops find it.

It's ugly. It is what it is. I should have added there is not enough public light on the subject, or enough national discussion.
