The weather difference between southern and northern IL can be quite striking. I remember going to my aunts in Chicago once...it was 50 when I left the southern part...snowing quite heavily in Chicago after the 5 1/2 hour drive.

As a general rule, I'd say no...we don't have a white Christmas. Has it happened...yes. I've seen 80's in January. The year of the tornado in Allendale was freakishly warm for winter. I would say that snow, most generally when it falls is in the 1 to 3 inch category. There are the exceptions of course, the blizzard of 78 comes to mind. The earliest I've seen it snow... October 8th. The latest...a few years ago it didn't snow one drop till February.

I wish I could be more specific, but unfortunately Mother Nature doesn't always stick to the norm. All and all though... southern IL weather isn't bad at all compared to a lot of places. The main saying down in IL... "If you don't like the weather, just wait an hour. It'll change."
