From Ohio originally so take my comments FWIW, BUT Indiana always seemed a good 10 years behind anywhere else in the Midwest. Why? No idea as to what underlying reasons one could come up with to answer that but the Hoosier state has just always given off a very behind the times feel. When I started teaching 15 years ago in South Carolina I had a young lady in class who would tell me her dad was from Indiana and he always referred to his home state as the place that time forgot.

With all that being said ironically everyone I've ever met from Indiana has been beyond normal and pretty cool. The people I've worked with over the years who were born and raised in Indiana are all good people.

Yep, another loser. At least we didn't elect him to anything, even though we've had our share of mistakes in the election columns.

It's almost as if making blanket statements about a population is.......not something that smart people do.

People who are like Mike Pence.

Not everyone in Indiana embraces his views but the ones who do seem to really make an unfavorable impression on those living in so called "more progressive" states.

Having left there 20 years ago there are some things I really miss about the Midwest like the overwhelming majority of people having some sense of morality and family values. Great place to raise a family imho.

The whole claim that Indiana is a "great place to raise a family" is just not the case in many areas of the state that still have poor economic conditions, underfunded schools, and mediocre healthcare. There are only a few areas of the state that is really applicable. Low cost of living states have inherent flaws and problems just like high cost of living states have inherent flaws and problems.

As for the rest of your claims, that is all subjective.

I think Indiana has the most British Southern heritage of any Northern state. Far more of it's White population has ancestry from Southern transplants rather than from German and Polish European immigrants. British Southerners are by far the most conservative group in the USA. Counties solely populated by them vote Trump 80/20.
