I'm waiting for an interview in Bloomington after Christmas and assuming I get the job I will be moving there. Part of me wants to live in Bloomington and part of me wants to live in Bedford and drive, but then gas isn't cheap. Is rent higher in Bloomington due to the University?

Yes, the rents in Bloomington seem to be higher. The farther you get from IU, the more normal they will be. Driving from Bedford wouldn't be bad. It's only a 25-35 minute drive depending on what part of town you're headed to and there are lots of people who do it. Traffic runs around 60-70 mph on the highway, but can get backed up heading in 2nd and 3rd streets. I drove from Paoli to the Bloomington Hospital every day for 2 months and it took about 50 minutes.

That said, have you been to Bedford very much or checked out any housing options yet? It's definitely a different world from Bloomington. I guess I would base my decision on how much time you were wanting to go out and do things in Bloomington outside of work and whether or not you have family or friends in the area.
