Has anyone here ever taken the train from Indianapolis to Chicago? We were considering taking it and were just curious about the experiences of others.

Did you park by the station or take a cab? The train leaves at 6am now. I think (haven't checked) it returns late at night. Any issues getting a cab that late? Any security concerns for the area?

How was the train ride?

Thanks,
Mike

You're better off taking the Mega Bus ... Amtrak from Indy to Chicago, unfortunately, is horrible.

I was wondering about the MegaBus too. Is it like Greyhound?

It's supposed to be great. I've spoken to people who live in downtown Indy who take the mega bus whenever they can, but it fills up fast.

I've taken the amtrak route to Chicago from Indy and I kept saying "I should have driven" ... it took over 4 hours to get between the 2 union stations ... stupid.

Do they have the "Business Class" option on this? I've only taken the Amtrack from Chicago out to other places and on coach it's horrible. On business class though....it's kinda sweet. Takes a lot longer than it really should to travel but it's a smooth ride the whole time and I have always met interesting people traveling business class.

Unfortunately, the only way I would take Amtrak again is if:

A) the speed increased
B) the speed increased
C) the speed increased

I would do it once just to see how it is...preferably on what I would call a "throw-away weekend"...that way, if it sucks, you are not too disappointed. On the other hand, I have taken Amtrak to Urbana-Champaign area and it was very good! It was much better than the Chicago-Indy trip.
