I just found out my kids have to be in Carmel mid-July for testing in order to start school in August. That's a whole month earlier than we start on the west coast. Yikes! All the elem schols seem great based on the various postings, but if one had no barriers to selecting a school/neighborhood, does 1 or 2 stand out? Also, what's the best way for my kids to meet friends prior to school starting? Are there summer programs that are easy to access midway through the summer? We're a tennis family if that helps. Thanks.

Carmel is a beautiful city and all the Carmel schools are great. We recently moved to Carmel ourselves, we enjoy it a lot! My son is outside all the time, meeting new friends ) If you need some real estate help, please let me know.

Are you talking about Carmel public schools? They can't deny your kids a place in school because you don't show up for testing ... unless they are testing for a special program .. but even then ... don't let anyone railroad you.

The Monon Center would be a good place to start looking for activities to get your kids enrolled in. Their Parks and Rec. department is awesome.

When we lived in Fishers, we played tennis through the Washington Twp Jr. Tennis program, but there is also a lovely club called The Five Seasons and there are a couple branches of the Indianapolis Raquet Club too. Carmel has a raquet club too. Tennis is LARGE here.

testing? we moved to carmel from michigan last july and had 2 weeks to get the kids into school. was no problem. they have registration days at certain schools, other you just go in and shoe proof you live in carmel and that school district area. if you are looking to rent first the homes go very fast and the apartments even faster. start looking now. you will not go wrong in any area of carmel. what price range and how many bedrooms are you looking for?

I was told 7/18 is enrollment and 7/19 is testing for the academically gifted programs in the Carmel elem schools and school starts 8/9...? My husband is there now and yes, several home have already been rented even over this past weekend. We want 4 bedrooms and would like to pay $2K or less. He is looking at about 4 places this Thursday maybe more if I can get them lined up. It's good to hear that virtually anywhere in the two Carmel zip codes we will be in luck re: schools/neighborhood. Certainly can't say that about Los Angeles, our current home!

If they are in a G/T program now ... coming from California, they should be able to matriculate without you guys having to rush your lives to take their test.
