After looking at a lot of houses on line, I see that MANY houses were built in the 1929/1930 time frame. Ok, historians, what was going on in that city that so many houses were built during those years? I was thinking that there was probably a big manufacturing plant built and there was a large influx of workers coming to the area and needing housing.

What is the history of the Spring Street/Elm Street and other streets there? How did all of these new homeowners get through the Great Depression?
Any websites that tell the history of this city? Or about the homes there?
Thank for any info.

There are a large number of wonderful old , historic homes in New Albany. The records may show most of them as 1929 or 1930 year built, but that is not accurate usually. The 1937 flood destroyed most property records in New Albany and they now use 1929 & 1930 as a default for the year built when they had courthouse records lost and they knew the houses were at least that old. Many of those homes were built in the 1880-1910 period when the city was the center for ship building among other things.
