It already went up to $3.99 a gallon yesterday in Carmel & Fishers, not that it dropped much the last time it jumped for the hurricane. If a hurricane causes the price to spike 40 cents overnight, shouldn't it drop by 40 cents when the crisis is over? Never really dropped here.

I've tried to educate my father on the topic, I think he finally started to "get it".

It's almost sad how many americans don't even understand basic economics.

They are too busy ranting about the oil companies I guess.

Fishers Gas Prices - Find Cheap Gas Prices in Fishers, Indiana

There appears to be some in the area that are a lot cheaper than that. This is a good resource. Good luck.

There will be no hyper-inflation. Why? Because all the money that gets printed only ends up in the hands of the elite: Politicians, upper level executives, etc.. Companies that make consumer staples will either sell their products or they won't because no one will be able to afford them. They can either cut costs, or keep prices the same, or they can go out of business (which just causes a ripple through the economy). People need food, water, and shelter. They also need a vehicle and gas to get to and from work. If companies try to use the FED printing money as a reason to justify price increases, when the bulk of their customer base will see no increase in pay, and likely a decrease in pay+benefits (due to rising healthcare costs, etc.), then they will go out of business. Oil companies are different, because while you don't need oil for life, most need oil to be able to make money to buy things needed for survival. Buying gold and silver is pretty much useless anyway. One is much better buying stuff on the cheap that will maintain its value, yet still be able to be quickly sold if they need money. Think tools, guns, ammo, food items.

I wonder why you think this is true.

Petrolium is the basis for most pesticides and food storage units...many, many other things besides simple transportation. And, even if it weren't, please offer an explanation as to why, despite ME oil reserves accounting for less than 15% of U.S. oil consumption, everytime an Arab farts there is a global restructuring/ripple effect in the price of consumer gasoline...

Companies don't care about consumer wellbeing, they care about maximization of profits.

You are correct, oil is needed for more than just driving, but the bulk of oil costs for people are driving in their lives. My main point is that anything that is needed for living will likely go up in price because it can and there is nothing we can do about it. Depending on the individual item (home heating fuel, food at the store, etc.) and the increase in price will be dicated between making money/greed and the true cost of production.
