Looking to move to the south bend area. Granger more specifically. I like the school district there.
Problem I'm running into is that I have found some potential houses that have a granger address, but are in elkhart county and therefore elkhart schools.

In trying to research schools so far I have found some articles that say you can send your kids to another school district, but I can't seem to find that info on the DOE website. Just want to make sure before I start the process of buying a house in a spot that keeps my kids out of the schools we want.

Anyone here know for sure what the deal is with sending your kids to another school district?

Thanks

You can't find the info on DOE because most school districts don't permit this, even if you are willing to pay to send your kids to another district. If a district did allow it, your out of district kids would be booted out if/when the district became overcrowded. For things like this, each district in Indiana can and does operate differently.

A visit to the website of the district gives this info:

I personally wouldn't risk buying a house in another district with the hope my kids could get in the one I wanted.

Yeah I have always thought that was the case. Just checking to make sure since I have seen talk about it.
It seems that it is possible, but you have to win the lottery to be able to do so...and for each kid at that!
Looks like my search is just going to be harder since this area isn't that big and neither is my budget.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the double post. In the middle of a much needed rainstorm and the internet was spotty.

You'll be paying a lot to bring your student to an out of district school. Another rub is that part of Granger also feeds into the South Bend school system. Hopefully you can find a house in the Penn district.

Yes, the school boundaries get a little tricky up there. Elkhart isn't a terrible district, but definitely less desirable than PHM. Good luck in your search.

I live in Granger and ran into the same issues when I was buying. I found quite a few homes I really liked but they were located in the Clay school district which is part of South Bend. Homes have come down in price since I bought. If you want to know something specific, feel free to ask.
