Bums? Fountain Square is a socioeconomically diverse place; the kind you might expect to find in a city. When I lived in Fountain Square, I rarely if ever saw what I would characterize as bums. However, there are a lot of poor people making their home their, as the neighborhood continues its shift.

There are some wonderful places there, don't you think it detracts tourists or people from visiting?

Honestly, I think someone who visits Fountain Square and is turned off by "bums", probably should be visiting places like Terre Haute and Fort Wayne instead. I have never thought it was much different from other places I have visited in Cincinnati, Milwaukee, etc.

As I said, Fountain Square has some great things to see. However, it is unwelcoming to be outnumbered
(let's say 10 to 1) as a visitor. My point is this, if Indy wants to attract more tourism and
revitalize an area ,as other cities have, fix some problems. This is not attacking Indy but rather
something to make it more appealing. Since I have been to many cities across the country, I have
seen them at least try. In no way do I suggest anything as extreme as NYC.

10 to 1? I call bull****. If you are afraid of whatever boogie man you saw, they have a nice pristine "urban" area in Carmel that has been sanitized for suburban consumption.

Carmel Arts and Design District

I can't believe how upset people are about pan handlers ... Indianapolis wants to be this urban place in the middle of flyover USA. Urban areas, like it or not, are "home" to the homeless. They are home to the homeless because the soup kitchens, missions and social services that are available to them are located in urban areas.

good luck Ballard, you are looking like a total tool right now. Yep, go after the homeless, that will make Indianapolis a beacon of all that is right with the city.

He's going after panhandlers. That's not necessarily the homeless. Do you believe most of the downtown panhandlers are actually homeless??
