Hello my family has the opportunity to move to Frankfort IN. We know nothing about the area and I am wondering if there is anyone who could tell us some information about it. Things like saftey and it seems small so it's hard to find out a lot on the web. So anything would be helpful.
Thank you

I grew up in Frankfort, I'm now in my 30's. I moved out of town about 4 or 5 years ago, but I still have family there. It is an ok town, it has grown a lot over the last few years, with more restaurants, etc. The schools are not the best, they have went down hill since I was a child. Southside elementary is one of the better schools in town, or there is Rossville a small town close by that has a good schools. Or even Clinton Central, which is in Michigantown another small town. The crime is worse than it used to be. The size of the town is nice. It's close to Lebanon, Kokomo, Lafayette, and not to far from Indianapolis (about an hour or so). There's not a lot of job opportunity except for factory work. Unless you drive to a nearby larger town. I hope this has been helpful.

Sincerely,
Michelle

Exclamation Moving to Frankfort

Hi!
Until last year I lived in Lebanon, IN (about 20 minutes from Frankfort). I joined the Y in Frankfort and spent some time there. I met some very nice people there with whom I still keep in touch. I even found a temporary teaching assignment there. (That is saying something since I lived in Lebanon for 3 years and made no friends.) I know from friends in the city that it is very cliquey. They are both professional from NW Indiana and have had difficulty connecting with people.

I agree with the previous poster--there is not much in the way of professional work. I did not see much in the way of amenities although there is summer theater on the southside of the city.

There is a high Hispanic population--many of whom have been in the town more than 20 years but have had extended family join them in the past 10 or so. I have heard stories of gang activity, too.

It is only about 20 minutes from West Lafayette where Purdue University is, and West Lafayette has a well recognized school system. It would be an easy commute.

Although I am grateful for my friends in Frankfort, I would probably live in West Lafayette and commute.
