Hi everyone. My husband and I moved here from Texas (he's from here, I'm born and raised Texan) and we are currently staying with family. We wanted to know what places in or around the Goshen area are safer to live in, which places to avoid, and things to know about living in Indiana.

Goshen is a relatively safe city for its size. Really, there isn't a place to avoid in terms of crime. However, the north side (north of the railroad tracks) is the least desirable because of the lower income neighborhoods. The east side of downtown also isn't the greatest but it is not horrible, just lower income. The south side of Goshen would be my pick, and also the west side of Goshen has many modest neighborhoods and is probably the fastest growing area of Goshen.

If you're looking for apartments, there are several apartment complexes on the west side of Goshen along US 33. Some are hit and miss, but some look like decent apartments. I'm not sure about your price range so I would have to know that to give you more specifics. Let me know!

I lived for 2 years in Arbor Lakes in Elkhart. It's really a stone's throw from Goshen, especially with the CR 17 extension. It's right on Old US20 at the interchange with US20 and CR 17. Easy access to almost everything thanks to having the bypass right there and CR 17. I don't know the rent anymore. It was well below $700 when I lived there but that was 15 years ago and it was only a one bedroom. I lived there and worked at Linway Plaza. It only took about 15 minutes to get there.

Also checkout the Watertower Place Townhomes. They're on ClintonSt between Greene and CR 17 next to the watertower. I lived there a few years ago and they were very nice. It's a very small place, just 4 buildings, but each unit is a 2-story, 2-bedroom townhome. I think it was a little over $600 a month. They were, and I assume still are, owned by GT Properties, the same company that owns the bigger but less nice apartment complex next door. That's also where their office is.

Make sure you're looking at the right one. There is a Water Tower Place apartments in Elkhart on La Salle St that are low income housing and senior living and are run by LaCasa. Just looked it up on Google Maps. The ones in Goshen are called Watertower Villas, not Watertower Place. Sorry for the confusion.
