Untrue. Each IU campus is a 4 year accredited university in its own right. IU Bloomington and IUPUI are core campuses and hold administrative roles but each IU campus is, in fact, a separate university. They do not rely on IU Bloomington or IUPUI for accreditation.

I graduated from IPFW in Fort Wayne but my diploma just says Indiana University.

I don't see them as separate universities. While the state shows they have separate budgets for appropriations, the entire IU system is under one Board of Trustees. In recent years, IU has went to streamline various departments (usually non-academic) by consolidating them under one umbrella department, all of which are based out of the Bloomington campus. One example is university human resources. From what I've been told, budgeting was always campus specific, but even parts of the budgeting is being looked at for consolidating (ie: Instead of many different budgets for HR, there would be just one main HR budget and money would be allocated based on campus need/size). All the budgets though are authorized or OKed by the same board.
