I was recently laid off for covid-related reasons. Looking at job offers around the country, Greencastle IN offers a decent package.

My budget is $230k for a 3 br. I'm a single mother with three kids; a 14-year-old & two 7-year-old twins.

I'm looking for somewhere with decent schools, and other families with kids and teens. Commute up to a half an hour.

Thanks.

If you're willing to have a little bit longer commute I'd suggest you look on the west side of Plainfield or in the Plainfield school district. Lots of families in Plainfield and more shopping, etc.

The budget might be a bit tight and the real estate market is moving fast in Plainfield.

That said there are two school districts located near Greencastle: the Greencastle Community school district and South Putnam Community school district (south of Greencastle) South Putnam is a bit better overall according to state report cards and data. Cloverdale is also close enough to be an option. One thing to note in Indiana regarding schools and school districts is that districts don't follow city or town borders. You have to ask sometimes and confirm independently.

Your housing dollar will definitely go farther in or near Greencastle. Greencastle itself is really a cute small town. There is a very small university in Greencastle: DePauw University. Depending on where you're at now though, it might be a bit of culture shock for you and your kids. It's definitely a rural area.

With three kids and new in the area, I would try really hard to live close to work. Greencastle should have all you need.
