hello, yesterday i got pulled over coming out of school for speeding in a school zone. i was going 35 in a 35. the only sign that is on the street i was driving on said 35 mph and nothing about a school zone or a reduced speed limit it just strictly said 35mph. according to the cop the speed is 25 until 3:30 yet the sign strictly says 35. am i in the right?

thanks,
Cody

Fight the ticket by showing up to court to plea not guilty. Regardless of actual guilt I bet you'll end up with the violation being reduced to something that won't put points on your record nor increase your insurance (you'll probably just get stuck paying a small fine). If you want to be even better prepared, bring photos of the sign in question.

If there was no sign facing you that said such a speed limit exists, you had no notice.

Too many cities post only one reduced speed limit sign in each direction, at the beginning of the speed zone. They do this to save money. But drivers who start driving in the middle of the zone, or turn onto the street from a side street have no notice.

Judges should throw out such cases until the jurisdiction posts adequate signage.

At least you weren't going 47 in a 15 like I did once...
