As I drive around the city, it seems every area of town has incredibly LARGE
warehouses. I just want to say how impressed I am. I am not used to seeing
warehouses of this size. And the surprising thing is, there seems to be no
part of town where they don't exist. I think this a sign of Indy's strong job
potential. Most of these places, I am assuming, hire through temp agencies.
I have only lived here a week so I am overwhelmed by it all. The most
magnificent area I have seen thus far is the Plainfield area, where the airport is located. There is so much commerce down there it boggles the mind.
I have found many job leads in this part of town, but I have my heart set on
living in one of the Northern Suburbs (Fishers, Carmel, Zionsville). Although
this might not seem like a significant commute to most, I am come from
a small town and I would not want to make a commute from Carmel to
Plainfield every day. How long is your commute?

I live in Fishers and work on the NW side of 465 off Michigan Rd. My commute is 30 minutes on an exceptionally good traffic day (or off peak rush hour), 45 min on an average day. Tolerable. Plainfield would definitely be a haul. Zionsville would be the best pick of the three you mentioned, as far as commute. You might even want to look into Brownsburg.

Unless you want to drive a forklift or a truck, the big warehouses (most are in Plainfield) don't mean tons of jobs.

Plainfield is a nice, boring area. You can find housing there much cheaper than north.
