I need to find a place to run 7-8 miles. Any parts of the Monon Trail that are not safe (or are not safe in the early morning). Any other recommended places? Any part of town is ok.

The odds of getting attacked on the Monon are slim. Thousands of people use the trail without issue. Most people will tell you to stay north of 38th Street. If you are alone, that might be a good idea. I will say, I frequently bike from downtown along the Monon. I have not encountered trouble yet, but I rarely travel by myself.

You could do laps around the central canal, many people do.

You could park in Broad Ripple and run along the canal. I'd say if you started off of Westfield Blvd on the NE side of the strip in Broad Ripple (right where the Monon passes through) and ran along the canal down to Butler or the IMA and then back, that would put you right at 7-8 miles round trip.

Also, running the Monon on most points north of Broad Ripple should be safe enough. It's very wooded and pretty for most of the way. I've been up and down the area from 146th St in Carmel down to I-465 and it's also a nice area with some interesting things to look at if you want to head up that far north
