Just offered a job is this location safe (Indianapolis, Lawrence: salary, moving)

My wife was just offered a job at Staples off of Pendleton Pike in Lawrence/indianapolis area. We are wondering if it's worth it for her to move from her current job to this and we are very unsure of the area after just moving here from Chicago a few months ago.

The Staples is north of 56th Street, unless they moved it. That is a nice enough area.

That immediate area is OK, but it's on the fringe. She'd be about a mile away from one of the worst areas in the city. Just tell her not to stray too far south of 56th street as it turns into a complete hell hole once you get into the 40's.

Here's the homicide map courtesy of the Indystar. That shows you how cruddy the east side is once you get into the 40's. 2010 hasn't been too bad by that area's standards (only a few murders), but look at 06-09 and you see how vicious that area of town is.

But going that way that area is nice enough? And I don't have to worry about her being over in that area? Even though it's an increase in salary my wife's well being is most important to me.

There is absolutely no reason to feel uncomfortable driving this route. However, I believe a more direct route would be to exit I-465 at 56th Street, head east through Fort Benjamin Harrison and take it to Pendleton Pike.
