There are plenty of liberals in Indiana but our representatives largely ignore us. On the rare occassion that we actually get a true progressive to run the liberals show up in droves. When our only choice is between a neo-con republican or a blue-dog Democrat (which is usually the case) then many of us stay home.

The states on either side of us aren't afraid to run true progressives for office. The Indiana Democratic party struggles with this idea - and the true progressives then struggle to support them. Obama got the highest turnout of Progressives at the polls in recent Indiana history. You would think the Hoosier Dems might consider that - instead they go and look for another Evan Bayh cookie cutout. Gee, thanks.

I can tell you it's probably going to be the last person I would ever hope for. As a clue the last name starts with a P....

Woohoo...hopefully that means we are safe from oppressive taxation for at least another four years after Mitch leaves.

albeit a carefully campaigned and orchestrated fluke. Obama worked like no other recent politician to get the NW Indiana, Chicago-influenced people on his side and it worked.

I thought you believed it to be oppressive already??

I also thought you dislike instrusive government. Well, if Pence gets in, get ready for a bunch of intrusive social legislation.

Mike Pence would rather run for the POTUS ... he's a glory hound ... gov-na would be less glamorous. It's going to be a free for all politically for the next governor's race.

I hope Kathy Davis comes back.

That's what I'm worried about. We are going to be the state that makes abortions illegal, constitutionally bans gay marriage, and with Pence we can probably kiss any progress in Indianapolis goodbye. An example would be the Indyconnect plan or basically anything requiring state approval.

[SIZE=3]Bummer your post was lost in a political debate. Bloomington is liberal and progressive, especially for Indiana. The University provides great access to culture; theater, music, and art. It has a nice nightlife and Indianapolis is only an hour away. If you like to hike, you’ll find plenty of options. Morgan/Monroe State Forest, Monroe Reservoir, Brown County, and many state parks and natural areas are a short drive away. While northern Indiana is mostly flat with a lot of agriculture, southern Indiana has a lot of forested valleys, leading to the Ohio River. Still farms are everywhere at the land is very productive. Ecologically, it’s actually a very diverse state, but you’ll have to look to see this. Bloomington is walkable, as long as you live close to downtown and IU. If you want to live out a way, you’ll want a car; public transportation is just workable at best. There are plenty of options for health food, whole foods, and locally grown produce too. Good luck!
