Will me moving to Indianapolis this summer. Can anyone give me some ideas of how Indianapolis compares to Charlotte and its suburbs? We have loved living in the south Charlotte, (Union Co) area for the past 8 years. We have heard good things about Indianapolis and are keeping an open mind and positive attitude about the move. My son will be going into 9th grade and is keeping a good attitude about the move. He is a baseball player and we will be looking to get him in a good program and have already talked to a couple of travel teams. Any information about the area, schools, the best places to live, and how housing costs compare would be appreciated.

My former neighbors in Fishers moved to Fort Mill and chose to move back to Fishers 2 year later. Hamilton Southeastern HS has a good baseball program. The best baseball team in the area is at Cathedral HS. Here's the IHSAA page on Baseball ...

As far as housing costs ... well, it depends on what your pricerange is ...

Probably looking at anywhere from 300,000 to 450,000 at a max.

Well the most expensive places to live in the suburbs are Carmel and Zionsville and that price range will definitely buy a house there. It just depends on what kind of neighborhood you are looking for. In those two suburbs that will probably buy a house in one of the cookie cutter neighborhoods, but in other suburbs like Greenwood or maybe some of the western suburbs, it could buy a custom home. Anyway, the houses will be nice no matter where you decide to move, you may just get more bang for your buck away from the north side.

As far as schools go Carmel, Zionsville, Noblesville, and Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers) are probably the best public schools in the area, but I believe almost all of the suburban school districts are fairly good.

Hi There,

I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd offer my 2 cents.

wh15395 is correct, that price range will buy you a home in a great neighborhood in just about any city around Indianapolis.

You also might want to consider the westside of Indianapolis (Hendricks County area) Avon or Brownsburg might be of interest to you.

Have you began searching for homes online yet?

Have been looking online. The areas that we have liked the most are Fishers, Brownsburg, Zionsville, and Avon.

Schools and baseball for my son are a huge part of the equation. That along with a place where we are not right on top of another house. We like a little privacy.

Well, closed on our home in Charlotte on this past Tuesday and will be closing on a home in Brownsburg on this coming Tuesday. Really looking forward to moving to the area.
