Our car has no heat at the moment, what can we do to defrost the windshield through all this sleet and snow?

Not much. If possible, just stay home.

Default Defroster problems

I agree with grmasterb.

Now they do make things like this which I've never used:

PORTABLE AUTO CAR HEATER DEFROSTER 12V Volt PLUGIN

MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE VIDEO. These things have amp reguirements for your cigarette lighter socket.

But think about it. If you use this you have to aim it and the windshield. How can you keep doing this while you are driving as the window will keep fogging up continuously. It's dangerous and I would not advise using it.

I had a car without heat for two weeks in winter many years ago and before I got it fixed I drove with both front windows open about 3 inches or so and that worked for the most part.

But obviously it is quite uncomfortable.

Please don't drive with your head stuck out the window. Some dumba$$ almost hit me yesterday because he couldn't see.

Today, I opened my hood, and the ice broke up enough to fall off.

Thanks, after much trial and error and 3 days after arriving in Indy without heat, my boyfriend and I were able to fix the heater. We were fine driving without it even though it was cold, but the problem came when the freezing rain hit us and iced up the windshield immediately making driving entirely impossible. That was scary.
We were afraid we wouldn't be able to afford to fix it for a while, but thankfully we were. Yay heat!
