Columbus is a lovely town with an amazing architectural history. That would be my first pick. I'm happy to direct you to a local real estate professional in that area as well. (I don't work that far South.)

Good luck!

Thank you all for great suggestions! Looks like Columbus is a great choice. Hopefully the house market there is stable. Both my husband and my jobs are kind of flexible. Does Columbus has big shopping market such as Costco or Sam's club? We do like some shopping convenience in the weekend.

Those driving speed discussions are really helpful. Indianapolis people are very kind and helpful.

PLEASE STAY OUT OF INDIANA!!! I'm tired of seeing our nice small towns ruined by people coming from crapping states!(California, Mich. to name a few). Bloomington and Columbus were nice towns,
you are right we don't like outsiders and there ways! So stay out!

The vast majority of us that are smart welcome and want people to move here. That way we don't stay stuck in the 50's.

Hopefully () you DO realize part of what makes Bloomington and Columbus such desirable towns is that they have higher education (IU) and industry (Cummins) in their favor.

Both universities and Fortune 500 companies depend upon a constant stream of capital (money) as well as an influx of talent.

Both IU and Cummins would cease to exist without that stream. Do you realize that? Do you also realize what would happen to the local (and state-wide) economy???

Perhaps you would be more content in a smaller town. Just drove through Holton IN. Plenty of boarded-up buildings. Old Skool Indiana still exists. Have a go at it!

Good luck and best wishes.

Honestly, Columbus isn't that bad of a drive to Louisville, it would be about an hour. I can get there from North Johnson County in an hour and a half and that's being 10 min from 65. It takes me 40 just to get to north marion county for work. But if you want to be fair about it, Seymour is mile marker 50 so that's 50 miles to Louisville and 50 miles to Indy so you are dead center.
