Hello,

There are two job openings for the company I work for and Indianapolis feels like the best fit. I love basketball and can't wait to get NBA and WNBA season tickets here. I also love the midwest!

Anyway I think Columbus and Indianapolis are basically the same city with a few minor cosmetic differences. So I am sure I will like it.

But I do need help with some specific things.

  1. Basketball gyms? Where is a preferably 24 hour gym, with good indoor basketball courts? I haven't been able to find anything downtown.
  2. Can anyone recommend a few good local music venues or websites?
  3. Does anyone know of areas of older historic brick homes (2000+ sqft) that would be under $50,000? Neighborhood doesn't matter. I want a fixer upper to create a work/live space, recording studio and live performance place. Again neighborhood is unimportant but am looking for a large brick home close to downtown.
  4. Does anyone know a FHA 203c rehab loan specialist?
  5. Can anyone recommend a realtor who specializes in urban renewal projects?
  6. What is the Castleton area like? That is where I would work. I imagine mall-sprawl-suburban land?
Thanks for any question you can answer. I should find out in few weeks if I get the job....along with my salary. Hoping for Indy!
Thanks again.

I will keep this brief, as I am heading out:

1) Downtown, you will not find one. There is a YMCA, but it does not have a gym.

2) Depends what you like. I like the Melody Inn at 38th and Illinois. Mousetrap on North Keystone is ok. There is a website for Indy music, I do not remember it, I will have to look it up later.

3) For that price, you can find something in Fountain Square, though it will probably not be brick. You might have a look on the near east side or up in "Martindale on the Monon", but again, may not find any brick. Prepare for the fright brigade to tel you to watch out for the east side, and most of the city for that matter.

4) I can not help you there

5) I can not help you there, I mean, I know some, but none I like enough to recommend

6) I work in Castleton and yes, it is a sprawly suburban nightmare anchored by a mall

Thanks for the answers!

You do a reverse commute then. How long of a drive is it to get from home to Castleton and back during commute times?

If there are no traffic back-ups on the interstates, it usually takes me just under 30 minutes to get to Castleton and back during "rush hour."

In the morning, I occasionally get delayed downtown on 65/70, I more frequently get delayed on 465 north by I-69. This can add 15 minutes to my commute depending on how far back the back-up starts.

In the evening, the most difficult part of my commute is getting out of Castleton. Once I get on the interstate, I rarely encounter delays unless there is a car accident. Sometimes, traffic is backed up downtown, but in the evening that is never more than a couple of minutes delay unless there is a car accident.

The loan you are looking for is a 203(k) rehab loan, isn't it? Try searching MIBOR.com for homes that fit your criteria, I don't know the area well enough to point you to any one neighborhod but the website can map them out for you.

Oh, and for music venues, I like The Vogue

Yup you are correct. The 203c is for condo purchase....which was in OKC. Edit.

Thanks for the help.
